What's New for Reel Affirmations 19
FA19 Frequently Asked Questions
One in Ten recently announced that Reel Affirmations has become a Resident Program of the Shakespeare Theatre Company, a move that will allow us to screen our films in DC's newest performing arts venue. This historic move has been met with universal acclaim, but there have been some questions about our new home.
Below is a list of the most frequently asked questions and our answers to them. If you have more questions, please feel free to contact One in Ten at 202-315-1319 or info@oneinten.org
- Does the Shakespeare Theatre own Reel Affirmations now?
No, the festival is still produced by One in Ten, which retains their own 501c3 non-profit and legal status. - Will all of the screenings be at the Harman Center for the Arts?
Reel Affirmations will be at the Harman Center for the Arts for the entire ten day run of the festival, and we will continue to use AFI Silver and the Goethe Institut. In addition, we are excited to head back to one of our longtime favorite venues, the DC JCC, for one screening. And we're introducing a number of screenings at the Mead Theater Lab in Flashpoint. To get directions to each venue, please visit our Venues page. - I'm a VIP and LOVE my assigned seats. Will that still be available to me?
Yes, we will still offer our VIPs assigned seats. However, because the theatre is somewhat smaller, we will make those seats available to the general public if they're not filled immediately prior to the film's start. - What does this mean for Reel Affirmations and One in Ten?
Our agreement with the Shakespeare Theatre allows us to reduce our overhead significantly and allows us to share some of the costs of putting on the festival. In addition, we are able to utilize some of STC's resources such as staffing, marketing and ticketing. - Am I still able to buy tickets through the reelaffirmations.org website?
Yes, you may purchase tickets through our website and at Universal Gear, as well as at www.shakespearetheatre.org. And you can buy passes at Lambda Rising, as well. - How many people does the Harman Center for the Arts seat?
The main space seats 775 and the Forum seats approximately 90 people. We can accommodate nearly 400 people in the mezzanine and lobby areas for parties and receptions.
Shakespeare Theatre Company Welcomes RA19
Dear Friends:
It is my pleasure to welcome the 19th Annual Reel Affirmations: The Nation's LGBT Film Festival to Sidney Harman Hall.
Reel Affirmations celebrates the progress LGBT filmmakers have achieved both artistically and culturally. Those who attend this festival will have the opportunity to delve into issues of importance to our entire community, from gay marriage to images of masculinity in the gay community; from adoption to activism.
I hope you will return to our theatres in the future to enjoy one of the six productions we will present during the 2009-2010 season: Ben Jonson's The Alchemist, William Shakespeare's As You Like It, Richard II and Henry V, the world premiere adaptation of The Liar by Pierre Cornielle and George Bernard Shaw's Mrs. Warren's Profession, starring Dixie Carter. I also invite you to partake in our free lunchtime series Happenings at the Harman, which showcases the best in local dance, music and theatre, each Wednesday at noon in The Forum of Sidney Harman Hall.
Thank you for joining us! I hope to see you at the Lansburgh Theatre and Sidney Harman Hall again.
Best always,
Michael Kahn
